About the Role

Balfor Education is seeking an experienced and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join an independent alternative provision in Thrapston, supporting students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant with experience supporting young people with SEND, SEN, SEMH, Autism and ADHD, particularly students who may have experienced difficulties engaging within a mainstream school environment.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping students overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence and independence, and engage positively with their education.

About the School

The school is an independent alternative provision supporting young people aged 11–16 across KS3 and KS4, particularly those who have found mainstream education challenging.

The setting provides small-group, supportive and holistic learning, with a strong focus on re-engagement, gaining qualifications and preparing students for positive destinations after Year 11.

Students study a range of subjects including Maths, English, Science, ICT, PE and Careers, alongside enrichment and wellbeing programmes designed to support their wider development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students across KS3 and KS4.
  • Support students with SEND, SEN, SEMH, Autism, ADHD and additional learning needs.
  • Encourage students to engage positively with lessons and school activities.
  • Assist teachers in adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Support students with their academic, social and emotional development.
  • Implement positive behaviour strategies and help maintain a calm learning environment.
  • Build positive, trusting and consistent relationships with students.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, engagement and behaviour.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
  • Support students during lessons, enrichment activities and wider school programmes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 months’ UK school-based experience working with children or young people.
  • Previous experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, Autism and ADHD.
  • Experience supporting students with challenging behaviour and additional learning needs.
  • Experience within a mainstream school, SEND school, specialist setting or alternative provision.
  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent is desirable.

What We Offer

  • Competitive daily rate of £90–£110 per day.
  • Full-time, Monday to Friday working hours.
  • Long-term, ongoing opportunity.
  • Valuable experience within an alternative provision and SEND setting.
  • Dedicated support from your Balfor Education consultant.
  • Opportunity to make a genuine difference to students who may have struggled within mainstream education.
