SEN Teaching Assistant Job in Liverpool
Balfor Education is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils within a special educational needs school in Liverpool. This rewarding, full-time role is ideal for candidates with experience supporting children with autism spectrum condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH (social, emotional and mental health needs), speech and language difficulties, PMLD, complex needs, and learning disabilities.

Key Responsibilities – SEN Teaching Assistant
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one support and delivering targeted interventions.
- Supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and complex learning difficulties.
- Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
- Assisting teachers with classroom activities and lesson preparation.
- Promoting communication, independence, and social interaction.
- Recording pupil progress and contributing to education and support plans.
- Assisting with personal care and mobility support where required.
- Working closely with teachers, therapists, parents, carers, and external agencies.
Essential Requirements
Successful applicants will have:
- A minimum of six months’ experience working within a UK school, SEN setting, alternative provision, residential care setting, or a similar environment.
- Experience supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
- Experience working with pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH, PMLD, speech and language needs, or complex needs.
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (preferred but not essential).
- Strong communication, behaviour management, and teamwork skills.
- A patient, adaptable, and compassionate approach.
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service or a willingness to obtain one.
