Balfor Recruitment is currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a supportive alternative provision in Bury.

This rewarding opportunity is ideal for candidates who have experience supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), autism, ADHD and behavioural challenges.

You will play an important role in helping pupils develop confidence, build positive relationships and re-engage with education within a structured and supportive environment.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support.
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs, autism and ADHD.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Assisting teachers with lesson preparation and classroom activities.
  • Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
  • Building strong relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
  • Promoting a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working within an alternative provision, pupil referral unit (PRU) or SEND setting.
  • Has experience supporting children with behavioural, emotional and additional learning needs.
  • Demonstrates patience, resilience and empathy.
  • Can confidently use behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Is passionate about supporting children and young people.

Essential Requirements

  • A minimum of six months’ experience working within a UK educational setting.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND or SEMH needs.
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualifications are desirable.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one.
  • Recent school-based references.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
