Job Title: Responsible Individual – Children’s Residential Home
Location: Birmingham
Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum (depending on experience)
(Part Time Considered)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Responsible Individual (RI) to oversee the operation of a Children’s Residential Home in Birmingham. This is a key leadership role, ensuring the home operates in full compliance with regulatory standards while delivering high-quality care and positive outcomes for children and young people.
The successful candidate will work closely with our Registered Manager and senior leadership team to maintain excellence in service delivery and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Ofsted Compliance & Regulation
- Act as the Responsible Individual in line with Ofsted requirements under the Children’s Homes Regulations.
- Ensure the home meets and maintains Ofsted standards, including achieving and sustaining a “Good” or “Outstanding” rating.
- Oversee all Ofsted inspections, ensuring full preparedness and compliance.
- Monitor and review Regulation 44 and Regulation 45 reports, ensuring actions are implemented effectively.
- Ensure all safeguarding practices meet statutory requirements and best practice guidelines.
Leadership & Governance
- Provide strategic oversight and governance of the children’s home.
- Support, supervise, and challenge the Registered Manager to ensure high standards of care.
- Ensure effective policies, procedures, and systems are in place and consistently followed.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Quality Assurance & Care Standards
- Monitor the quality of care provided to children and young people.
- Ensure care planning is robust, person-centred, and outcome-focused.
- Review incidents, safeguarding concerns, and complaints, ensuring appropriate action is taken.
- Drive improvements based on audits, feedback, and inspection outcomes.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Ensure the home operates in line with safeguarding legislation and guidance.
- Act as a key escalation point for safeguarding concerns.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant legislation, including Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
Business & Development
- Support the registration of new children’s homes where required.
- Assist with Ofsted applications and registrations, including submitting documentation and liaising with regulators.
- Contribute to the growth and development of the organisation.
- Ensure financial and operational efficiency in line with organisational goals.
Person Specification
- Proven experience as a Responsible Individual, Registered Manager, or senior leader within children’s residential care.
- In-depth knowledge of Ofsted regulations, Children’s Homes Regulations, and Quality Standards.
- Strong leadership, management, and organisational skills.
- Experience in Ofsted registration processes and applications.
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) desirable.
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
