Salary: £29,289 – £31,239 per annum plus sleep-in allowance
Hourly Rate: £15.02 – £16.02 per hour

Are you passionate about supporting young people and ready to take the next step in your career? We are looking for a Deputy Manager to join our children’s residential home in Kirkby, Knowsley. In this role, you will assist the home’s manager in leading a team dedicated to providing a nurturing, safe, and structured environment for children and young people, while stepping up to lead the home in the manager’s absence.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support Leadership: Assist the manager in overseeing the daily operations of the home, ensuring staff deliver high-quality care and support to young residents.
- Team Supervision: Supervise, mentor, and support the residential support workers, helping them develop their skills.
- Compliance: Ensure that the home and staff fully comply with regulatory requirements, including the Children Acts, Care Standards Act, and Children’s Homes Regulations.
- Shift Management: Take responsibility for the effective running of shifts, ensuring proper handovers and maintaining clear communication within the team.
- Care Planning: Oversee the development and review of care plans and risk assessments, ensuring the needs of each young person are met.
- Safeguarding: Maintain a safe environment for the children and young people, applying intervention strategies for behaviour management as needed.
- Regulatory Reporting: Support in completing reports, including Ofsted notifications, monthly Annex A updates, Reg 44 inspections, and Reg 45 reports alongside or in the absence of the manager.
- Team Support: Chair team meetings when necessary, help resolve disputes informally, and ensure team cohesion and positive relationships.
- Training & Development: Ensure that all staff are up to date with mandatory training and assist in the induction of new staff members.
- External Engagement: Attend reviews and meetings, representing the home with external agencies as needed.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential care setting.
- Full UK driving licence.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and Ofsted regulations.
- Desirable:
- NVQ/Diploma Level 4/5 in Leadership and Management (or willingness to work towards this qualification).
- Knowledge of ClearCare Electronic Recording system (training can be provided).
Schedule:
- Day shifts, night shifts, and weekends are part of the role.
- Shift pattern: 2 days on, 4 days off.
