1:1 Teaching Assistant
Location: Erdington, Birmingham
Pay: £85–£95 per day
Contract: Full-time, ongoing
The Role:
Balfor Education is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil at a secondary PRU in Erdington. The role involves working with a young person excluded or at risk of exclusion from mainstream education, supporting them to access learning, manage behaviour, and develop self-regulation and social skills. You’ll assist with classwork, offer emotional and behavioural support, and help maintain a safe and structured environment.
What We’re Looking For:
• Experience working in a PRU or with secondary-aged pupils with SEMH/behavioural needs
• Confident managing challenging behaviour and building positive relationships
• Calm, consistent, and adaptable approach
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice and de-escalation strategies
• PECS or Makaton knowledge (a plus, not essential)
• Strong safeguarding awareness
Requirements:
• Relevant SEN, SEMH, or PRU experience
• Level 1 Safeguarding (or willingness to complete)
• Enhanced DBS on Update Service (or willingness to apply)
• Valid photo ID and recent references
• Immediate availability
