SEN Teaching Assistant – Buxton, Derbyshire
Balfor Education is currently recruiting for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision setting in Buxton, Derbyshire. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated Teaching Assistant with experience supporting SEN, SEND, SEMH, Autism, ADHD and challenging behaviour.
The successful candidate will provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged students, helping them to engage with learning, develop confidence and make positive progress both academically and personally.

The school is an Alternative Provision setting in Buxton, Derbyshire, supporting secondary-aged students who may have experienced challenges within mainstream education.
The setting provides a structured, supportive and personalised learning environment, with a strong focus on:

Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged students.
- Support pupils with SEN, SEND, SEMH, Autism and ADHD.
- Help students engage positively with their learning.
- Adapt activities and learning materials to meet individual needs.
- Support students with emotional, social and behavioural needs.
- Implement positive behaviour strategies.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Encourage confidence, independence and self-esteem.
- Monitor and communicate student progress.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff.
- Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 months’ UK school-based experience.
- Previous experience working with SEN/SEND students.
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD and/or SEMH.
- Confident supporting challenging behaviour and additional learning needs.
- Experience within a mainstream school, SEN school, specialist setting or Alternative Provision is desirable.
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, empathetic and nurturing approach.
- Ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
