SEN Teaching Assistant Job – Cornwall
Are you an experienced and passionate SEN Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity in Cornwall? Balfor Recruitment is currently recruiting for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a mainstream primary school in Cornwall, starting in September 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a nurturing and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). You will provide targeted 1:1 and 1:2 support to pupils in Year 1 and Year 3, helping them to access learning, develop their confidence and make positive progress both academically and socially.

This full-time SEN Teaching Assistant role in Cornwall will initially run for the first academic term, with the potential for the position to continue.
Key Responsibilities – SEN Teaching Assistant
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and 1:2 support to pupils with Special Educational Needs.
- Supporting children with their academic, social and emotional development.
- Helping pupils manage their emotions, build resilience and develop positive social skills.
- Supporting pupils to engage with lessons and classroom activities.
- Working closely with the class teacher to adapt lessons and learning resources to individual needs.
- Modifying learning materials to ensure they are accessible and appropriate for each pupil’s ability level.
- Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining a calm, safe and supportive classroom environment.
- Acting as a trusted key adult and building positive, professional relationships with pupils.
- Providing consistent emotional and pastoral support.
- Monitoring pupil progress and engagement and sharing observations with the class teacher.
- Providing feedback to teachers and relevant professionals regarding pupil progress, behaviour and any challenges.
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals to support the individual needs of pupils.
Requirements – SEN Teaching Assistant
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification – desirable.
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN – essential.
- Experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or providing 1:1 pupil support.
- A nurturing, patient and empathetic approach to supporting children.
- Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- The ability to provide consistent and supportive guidance to pupils.
- Adaptability and resilience when supporting pupils with a range of needs.
- Excellent communication skills when working with pupils, teachers, support staff and families.
- A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach their potential.
