The School/Role

We are seeking a passionate SEN Teacher to join our dedicated team at a fantastic SEN school in Birmingham. This full-time, permanent role involves leading and delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring they receive the support and guidance they need to reach their full potential.

Key Duties

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver differentiated lessons and learning activities to meet the diverse needs of students with SEN.
  • Individualised Support: Develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans (BSPs) to address the specific learning and behavioural needs of each student.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Assess student progress, set targets, and provide regular feedback to students, parents, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborative Working: Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, SENCO, external agencies, and parents to ensure a holistic approach to student support and inclusion.
  • Inclusive Classroom Environment: Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a love of learning and promotes positive social interactions.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Specialism or additional qualifications in SEN teaching or inclusive education
  • Experience teaching students with SEN, preferably in a mainstream or special school setting
  • Strong understanding of SEN strategies, interventions, and best practices
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Desirable

  • Additional qualifications or training in specific areas of SEN (e.g., autism, dyslexia, speech and language disorders)
  • Experience using assistive technology and alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton)
  • Experience working with students with complex needs or challenging behaviour
  • Recent school-based references
  • Valid Photo ID – Driving Licence or passport
  • Full DBS – on the update service or willingness to obtain a new enhanced DBS
