Roles available with Special Needs Teaching Jobs

There are two main types of roles available in special needs teaching.

SEN Teaching Assistant:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll have a set of daily responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers to provide effective support for learning activities
  • Work accordingly to the school's policies and procedures
  • Support children and young people who have varied complex needs, who may have life-limiting conditions
  • Help students understand instructions and support their independent working
  • Contribute to planned learning activities
  • Participate in the planning of learning activities
  • Supervise a class and or small group
  • Maintain a clean and safe learning environment

SEN Teacher:

For an SEN Teacher, there's more responsibility involved on a weekly basis.

  • Prepare and plan lessons, as well as teach them
  • Prepare teaching materials, write reports and take daily registers
  • Manage student's behaviour and monitor your student's progress
  • Participate in school trips and workshop
