About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated Youth Offending Service (YOS) Officer to join our team in Birmingham. In this role, you will support the Birmingham Youth Offending Service by engaging with courts, young people, families, and multi-agency partners to deliver effective interventions that reduce offending and promote positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advocacy, advice, and support in criminal court settings.
  • Conduct detailed assessments, prepare formal reports, and deliver safeguarding assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency teams to address the needs of young people in the Criminal Justice System.
  • Evaluate risks, deal with safeguarding concerns, and develop intervention plans.
  • Promote the Youth Offending Service’s strategies and interventions to support rehabilitation and prevent re-offending.
  • Foster positive relationships with young people, their families, and victims to achieve the best outcomes for all stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in a multi-agency setting with young people involved in the Criminal Justice System.
  • Strong communication, advocacy, and assessment skills.
  • Knowledge of criminal legislation affecting young offenders.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage a diverse caseload.
  • Experience preparing formal reports, evaluating risk, and safeguarding.
  • Awareness of the underlying issues that contribute to youth offending.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years’ recent experience (within the last 5 years) working directly with children and families in a youth justice setting.
  • Qualifications: Degree or equivalent qualification in Psychology, Youth and Community Justice, Social Work, or Criminal Justice.
  • Compliance: Must hold an Enhanced DBS and have the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Hours: Full-time position, 37 hours per week.
  • Travel: A valid UK driving license and access to your own vehicle are essential.
