Teaching Assistant – SEN/SEMH Support

Location: Birmingham
Pay: £85 – £105 per day (dependent on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time, ongoing

We are currently recruiting for a compassionate and experienced Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic and supportive team at a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in the Stoke area. This school provides tailored education for students with SEN, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) challenges, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and ADHD. If you are dedicated to supporting young learners with additional needs and have experience in these areas, we would love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with a variety of SEN needs, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and learning difficulties.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of lessons, working closely with teachers to ensure individual learning targets are met.
  • Help with managing classroom behaviour, supporting students in developing social and emotional skills.
  • Observe and report on student progress, contributing to the overall development plan for each child.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.
  • Work collaboratively with the SEN team and other staff members to support the holistic development of each child.
  • Support students in developing their independence and self-esteem.
  • Foster a positive and nurturing relationship with students, promoting their engagement and well-being.

Key Skills Needed:

  • Experience working with students with SEN, SEMH, ASD, and ADHD in a school setting is essential.
  • Strong understanding of strategies to support students with behavioural and emotional challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to remain patient, calm, and flexible in challenging situations.
  • A proactive approach to supporting student learning and development.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative school environment.
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures and the importance of a child-centred approach to support.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience in a school setting working with SEN/SEMH/ASD/ADHD students is essential.
  • TA qualifications (Level 2 or Level 3) are highly desirable but not essential.
  • DBS on the update service is desirable, but we can provide one if you do not already have one.
  • A compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature.
  • Availability for a full-time position, Monday to Friday.
