The School:
We are currently recruiting several Primary & Secondary Teaching Assistant’s on behalf of an excellent Pupil Referral Unit in Lichfield. The school provides a tailored education programme for students aged 5-16 who have either been permanently excluded from mainstream education or are referred on short-term placements as part of preventative measures. The school offers a supportive, nurturing environment tailored to meet the complex emotional and behavioural needs of students, helping them transition back into mainstream settings or further their development within the provision.
Job Summary:
We are currently recruiting for a compassionate and dedicated PRU Teaching Assistant to join our client’s team. You will work with students to help them manage their emotional and mental health challenges, offering a calm and supportive presence to ensure they feel safe and understood. You’ll assist in managing challenging behaviours, using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement to maintain a conducive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Individualised Support: Tailor support plans for students, addressing their unique academic and pastoral needs.
- Academic Assistance: Provide targeted tutoring and study skills to support students’ learning, within Key Stages 2 and 3.
- Behavioural Intervention: Implement effective strategies for managing and positively influencing student behaviour, fostering a positive learning environment.
- Emotional Well-being: Offer emotional support, creating a safe space for students to express themselves and develop coping mechanisms.
- Transition Support: Facilitate smooth transitions for students, especially during key educational milestones.
Desired Candidate Qualities:
- SEMH Experience: Crucially, the ideal candidate must have relevant experience as a Teaching Assistant for students with SEMH needs.
- Empathy and Compassion: A genuine passion for supporting students with SEMH needs.
- Effective Communication: Strong communication skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Adaptability: Ability to adjust to the varied needs of students in an alternative provision setting.
- Resilience: Demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges, maintaining a positive outlook.
- Team Player: Collaborative spirit, working effectively with a team of educators and support staff.
- Experience: Previous experience in a pastoral or pupil support role, especially in a PRU setting, is highly desirable.
