Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and experienced SpLD Tutor to provide face to face support to a student attending the university of Gloucester from September 2024.
The students that will require support have an entitlement of 30 – 60 hours per academic year and will need to have support sessions that are between 1 – 3 hours long.
We are looking for a tutor who has a strong background in supporting students with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. The SpLD Tutor will work closely with students, parents, and teachers to develop and implement individualized education plans that cater to each student’s unique needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct face to face assessments to identify students’ specific learning difficulties.
- Develop and implement personalized education plans (IEPs) tailored to individual students.
- Use multisensory teaching techniques and adaptive technologies to enhance learning.
- Provide targeted interventions to help students develop key academic and organizational skills.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting teaching methods as needed.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure cohesive support.
- Teach coping strategies to help students manage frustration and anxiety related to their learning difficulties.
- Advocate for students’ needs within the educational system to ensure they receive appropriate accommodations and support.
- Stay updated with the latest research and best practices in SpLD education.
Essential criteria to apply
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Special Education, or a related field.
- Specialized training or certification in Specific Learning Difficulties (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD).
- Be a member of PATOSS, Dyslexia Guild or ADSHE.
- Proven experience working with students with SpLD in a tutoring or classroom setting.
- Strong understanding of multisensory teaching techniques and adaptive technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
