SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Walsall, West Midlands
Duration: Full time, ongoing
Start Date: September 2024
Salary: £85 – £100 per day

The School/Role:

On behalf of a prestigious SEN school in Walsall, we are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school is a 4-19 all-age Special School, specialising in supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), complex communication, and cognition and learning needs. Accredited by the National Autistic Society, the school prides itself on valuing the individuality of each pupil and is dedicated to challenging them to achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in the educational journey of our students. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-on-one and small group support to primary-aged students with complex needs.
  • Implementing and monitoring individualized education plans tailored to each student’s unique requirements.
  • Collaborating closely with teachers and other staff to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Utilizing techniques such as PECS and Makaton to support non-verbal students.
  • Managing and responding effectively to challenging behaviours, ensuring a safe and supportive classroom atmosphere.

Candidate Requirements: The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working in an SEN school, specifically supporting children with ASD.
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification in childcare or education.
  • Training and experience in PECS and Makaton.
  • Experience with a range of needs, including PMLD, SLD, MLD, and complex needs.
  • A Level 1 safeguarding certificate.
  • Recent school-based references.
  • Valid Photo ID (Driving Licence or Passport).
  • A full DBS on the update service or the willingness to obtain a new enhanced DBS.
