SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Liverpool
Position: Full-time, ongoing
Salary: £85 – £100 per day

About the Role:

An outstanding special educational needs (SEN) school in Dudley is looking for a dedicated, compassionate, and experienced  SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, ongoing basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity to support children with a range of additional needs in a warm, inclusive, and supportive school environment. The school caters to pupils with cognition and learning difficulties, physical disabilities, autism, and complex health needs.

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide individualised support, both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with a variety of SEN needs

  • Assist in preparing and adapting resources and learning materials

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive lessons

  • Help with classroom displays and creating a positive, engaging learning space

  • Foster positive, supportive relationships with pupils and staff

  • Support personal care and well-being routines when required, including toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene assistance

  • Promote a safe, caring, and nurturing environment for all pupils

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Hold a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (Desired)

  • Have experience or a strong interest in supporting children with SEN

  • Be flexible, patient, and proactive in their approach

  • Demonstrate excellent teamwork and communication skills

  • Be nurturing, empathetic, and understanding of individual pupil needs

  • Be comfortable and confident supporting personal care routines as part of the role

  • Have experience or training in PECS, Makaton, and working with children with ASD, SLD, and non-verbal communication needs

  • Hold a Level 1 safeguarding certificate

Requirements:

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification

  • PECS and Makaton training/experience (desirable)

  • Experience working with ASD, SLD, complex needs, and personal care

  • Level 1 safeguarding certificate

  • Recent, relevant school-based references

  • Valid photo ID (Driving License or Passport)

  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply for one)
