Are you passionate about supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? We are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team in Birmingham. This full-time position is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the educational and emotional development of students aged 11-16. The role runs until the end of the academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in Classroom Management: Support students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, helping to manage behaviour and foster a positive learning environment.
  • One-to-One and Group Support: Provide tailored assistance to students, ensuring they access the curriculum in a way that suits their individual needs.
  • Use of PECS and Makaton: Support communication with students using PECS and Makaton to enhance learning and understanding.
  • Implement Learning Plans: Work closely with teaching staff to carry out individual learning plans, adjusting strategies as needed to meet students’ progress.

Requirements:

  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant: Previous experience working with students, especially those with SEMH or other SEN needs, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of PECS and Makaton: Experience or training in PECS and Makaton is a strong advantage.
  • Safeguarding Training: A Level 1 Safeguarding certificate is required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively: You must be able to work well with colleagues, students, and parents to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
