SEN Teacher – Tipton

Location: Tipton
Pay: To scale
Contract Type: Full-time, ongoing

We are currently recruiting for a compassionate and experienced SEN Teacher to join a dynamic and supportive team at a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in the Tipton area. If you are a passionate educator with experience in supporting students with complex needs, we would love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons to students with a variety of complex SEN needs, including ASD, physical disabilities, and profound learning difficulties.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to ensure each student achieves their individual learning targets.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students, ensuring inclusive education and participation in all activities.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular updates to parents and the wider teaching team.
  • Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all students, adjusting approaches to suit individual learning styles and needs.
  • Collaborate with the SEN team, external professionals, and other staff members to develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Support students in developing their independence, communication skills, and social interactions.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their engagement, well-being, and self-esteem.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the SEN provision within the school.

Key Skills Needed:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent, with experience in teaching students with complex SEN needs (including ASD, physical disabilities, and profound learning difficulties).
  • Strong understanding of strategies and approaches to support students with complex medical, physical, and emotional needs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues, including using alternative communication methods where necessary (e.g., Makaton, PECS).
  • Patience, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm under pressure when supporting students with challenging needs.
  • A proactive approach to fostering student learning, independence, and well-being.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a collaborative school environment.
  • A solid understanding of safeguarding procedures and a child-centred approach to teaching.

Key Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience in teaching students with complex SEN needs (including ASD, physical disabilities, and profound learning difficulties) is essential.
  • Experience working with alternative communication systems (e.g., Makaton, PECS) is desirable.
  • DBS on the update service is desirable, but we can provide one if you do not already have one.
  • A compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature, with a strong commitment to improving the lives of students with complex needs.
  • Availability for a full-time position, Monday to Friday.
