PRU Teacher
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £180 – £220 per day
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated PRU Teacher to join a supportive Pupil Referral Unit in Birmingham. The role involves teaching a broad curriculum to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who are unable to access mainstream education.
As part of a committed team, you’ll help students re-engage with learning, manage behaviour positively, and build key life skills in a nurturing, small-group setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver tailored lessons across core subjects.
- Create a safe, structured environment that supports SEMH development.
- Work closely with colleagues, families, and external agencies.
- Track progress and adapt strategies to meet individual needs.
Requirements
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent.
- PECS and Makaton training/experience
- SEMH, SEBD needs experience
- Level 1 safeguarding certificate
- Recent school based references
- Valid Photo ID – Driving Licence or passport
- Full DBS – on the update service
- Experience in a PRU or alternative provision.
- Strong classroom management and SEMH awareness.
