We are looking for a committed, nurturing individual to provide specialized support to students facing behavioural difficulties, contributing to creating a safe and inclusive environment that promotes positive student outcomes.
The trust operates a range of settings, both primary and secondary, catering to students with various needs, including SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health), ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), SEBD (Social, Emotional, and Behavioural Difficulties), and ADHD. These schools are located across Walsall, and we are eager to find staff who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of these students.
The Role
As a Pastoral Teaching Assistant (Behavioural Intervention Focus), you will play a crucial role in supporting students with behavioural and emotional challenges. This role is not classroom-based, and you will primarily be working across the school, providing one-on-one behavioural support and facilitating interventions that promote positive behaviours. Your work will be key in helping students manage their emotions, build coping strategies, and improve their social interactions.
You will collaborate closely with the pastoral team and other professionals to ensure students receive tailored support that enables them to thrive both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized behavioural support to students who require additional help to manage their emotions and behaviour.
- Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques in both structured and unstructured settings, including break times.
- Support students in navigating challenging situations, ensuring a safe and supportive environment at all times.
- Monitor and report on student progress regarding behaviour, emotional well-being, and engagement, sharing information with the pastoral team and leadership.
- Offer emotional support to students, helping them to build resilience and confidence.
- Act as a role model for students, encouraging positive social behaviour and helping to resolve conflicts.
- Work closely with the class teachers and other staff to provide a cohesive approach to student support.
- Support the implementation of restorative practices to rebuild relationships and foster a positive school culture.
Requirements:
- Experience supporting children or young people in an educational setting, particularly those with behavioural challenges or SEN.
- A genuine interest in pastoral support and helping students develop coping strategies for managing emotions.
- Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and experience in implementing positive interventions.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with students facing challenging circumstances.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, staff, and external agencies.
- Experience in SEMH or PRU settings (preferred but not essential).
- Enhanced DBS check (we can assist with this if needed).
- Valid Photo ID (e.g., passport or driving license) and references from the past 2 years.
Why Work with Balfor Recruitment?
- A supportive and inclusive school community focused on positive outcomes for students.
- Opportunities for professional development and further training.
- Make a real difference in students’ lives by helping them to improve their social, emotional, and behavioural skills.
- Competitive pay based on experience.
