Level 3 SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Halesowen
Duration: Full time, Ongoing
Salary: £90 – £105 per day (dependent on experience)


The Role:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in the Halesowen area. This is a full-time, ongoing role that offers an exciting opportunity to work with a range of students with various learning needs, including ASD, ADHD, MLD, SLD, and complex needs.

Key Duties:

  • Constant Supervision: Provide vigilant support and supervision to ensure the safety of students, particularly in managing behaviour associated with various learning needs.
  • Building Trusting Relationships: Develop strong, trusting relationships with students to create a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Sensory Activity Assistance: Support students in engaging with the sensory activities, encouraging their involvement and promoting learning through sensory experiences.
  • Outdoor Activities: Organise and facilitate outdoor activities, ensuring students have opportunities to enjoy physical activity and promote their well-being.

Key Skills:

  • Experience with SEN: Previous experience working with children with a range of SEN, including ASD, ADHD, MLD, SLD, and complex needs.
  • Behaviour Management: Proven ability to manage challenging behaviour and provide consistent support in a positive, calm manner.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills, ideally including the ability to use PECS, Makaton, or other communication systems to support non-verbal or minimally verbal students.
  • Empathy and Patience: A compassionate and patient approach to supporting students with complex learning needs.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively within a team of teachers and teaching assistants to meet the needs of students.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adjust to the individual needs of each student and adapt learning activities accordingly.

Requirements:

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent (essential)
  • Experience working with SEN needs (ASD, ADHD, MLD, SLD, and complex needs) (essential)
  • PECS and Makaton training/experience is desirable
  • Recent school-based references
  • Valid Photo ID (e.g., Driving Licence or Passport)
  • Full DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) on the DBS Update Service (we will consider applicants without a DBS on the update service but this is greatly preferred)
