We are actively seeking dedicated Behavioural Support Assistants for a leading Pupil Referral Unit and Alternative Provision in Walsall. Our school specialises in providing tailored educational support for students aged 5-16 who have faced challenges in mainstream education. With a strong emphasis on behavioural management and emotional support, our team empowers students to thrive and successfully transition back into mainstream settings or continue their development in a nurturing environment.
Job Summary:
As a Behavioural Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in helping students manage their emotional and behavioural challenges. Your compassionate approach will create a safe and supportive atmosphere, allowing students to feel valued and understood.
Key Responsibilities:
- Behavioural Support: Implement effective strategies to assist students in managing emotional and behavioural challenges, fostering a positive classroom environment.
- Individualized Support: Create personalized support plans that address each student’s unique academic and emotional needs.
- Academic Assistance: Provide targeted tutoring and study skills support for students in Key Stages 2 and 3.
- Emotional Well-being: Develop a safe space for students to express themselves and cultivate effective coping mechanisms.
- Transition Support: Facilitate smooth transitions during key educational milestones, ensuring students feel supported.
What We’re Looking For:
- SEMH Experience: Experience as a Behavioural Support Assistant or in a similar role working with students who have SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
- Empathy and Compassion: A strong passion for making a positive impact in the lives of students facing emotional and mental health challenges.
- Effective Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Adaptability: Ability to adjust to the diverse needs of students in an alternative education setting.
- Resilience: Maintain a positive outlook in challenging situations.
- Team Player: Collaborate effectively with a dedicated team of educators and support staff.
- Relevant Experience: Previous experience in a pastoral or pupil support role, especially within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), is highly desirable.
