1:1 Teaching Assistant

 

Location: Birmingham

Duration: Full time, on going

Salary: £85 – £95 per day

 

The School/role:

An amazing special needs school in Walsall are currently looking for a fulltime 1:1 teaching assistant to work within one of their many classes from ages ranging from 4 to 19 years old. The school is a community special school with students with cognition and learning difficulties in addition to physical disabilities and complex health needs. They aim to provide a secure environment where all the children’s individual needs are recognised and catered for.

This will include supporting teachers with material preparation for lessons, assisting with displays and providing direct 1 on 1 or small group student support. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience supporting students either 1 on 1 or within small groups with their reading, writing or maths dependant upon situation. PECS and Makaton training or experience would be suitable for the teaching assistant role but not necessary. This is a full-time post and will run until the end of the academic year.

 

The ideal candidate for a SEN TA role should:

 

  • Demonstrate experience or a strong interest in supporting children with SEN
  • Possess prior experience collaborating within the SEN Department
  • Exhibit flexibility, proactivity, and patience
  • Show nurturing and compassionate qualities in their approaches
  • Communicate effectively within a team
  • Hold a background in Education, Care, Psychology, or Drama, as these skills are easily transferable.
  • While training or experience in non-verbal communication, such as Makaton or PECS, is preferred, a willingness to learn is essential.

A new enhanced DBS will be needed for this role or a subscription to the DBS update service.

 

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teaching Assistant OR Relevant SEN Background
  • PECS and Makaton training/experience
  • ASD, SLD, Complex needs – Non verbal needs experience
  • Level 1 safeguarding certificate
  • Recent school based references
  • Valid Photo ID – Driving Licence or passport
  • Full DBS – on the update service
