1:1 Teaching Assistant
Erdington, Birmingham
£85 – £95 per day
Balfor Recruitment is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and well-resourced Special Educational Needs (SEN) primary school in Erdington, Birmingham. This is a full-time, ongoing role working with pupils aged 5 to 11 who have a range of additional needs, primarily related to cognition and learning difficulties, including autism and speech and language challenges.
The Role:
You will be working on a 1:1 basis with a pupil who requires additional support to access the curriculum and navigate their school day. You will also support the wider class when required. This role involves assisting with classwork (including reading, writing, and numeracy), emotional regulation, and developing communication and social skills. You may also contribute to creating engaging resources, preparing activities, and helping set up displays in the classroom.
The school promotes a nurturing and structured environment and is looking for someone who is patient, calm, and consistent, with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience working with SEN pupils, particularly those with ASD, speech and language needs, or cognition and learning difficulties
- Ability to work effectively 1:1 and in small group settings
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, supportive attitude
- PECS and/or Makaton training or experience (desirable but not essential)
- Understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to the welfare of children
Requirements:
- Qualified Teaching Assistant or relevant SEN background
- Level 1 Safeguarding Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Recent, relevant school-based references
- Valid Photo ID (Driving Licence or Passport)
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
- Immediate availability
