About Us

Balfor are working on behalf of well-established education trust who are looking for PRU TA’s and SEMH support staff to work across their fantastic PRU’s and Alternative provisions. We are looking for full-time committed teaching assistants to provide a nurturing and inclusive educational environment for all students, especially those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and challenging behaviour. The trust has a range of different schools that could provide some fantastic opportunities for teaching assistants, pastoral staff cover supervisors and even individuals without the experience but a passion for helping others.

The schools are a mix of settings, both primary and secondary covering a range of different needs including ASD, SEMH, SEBD and ADHD. All the special schools are located across Birmingham including, Stechford, Sparkbrook, Castle Vale, Sparkbrook, Quinton, Tysley and Kings Norton.

The schools are dedicated to fostering a supportive community where every student can achieve their full potential. We are seeking a passionate and experienced PRU TAs to join the amazing dynamic schools and make a significant impact on the lives of the students.

Job Description

As a PRU or SEMH Teaching assistant, you will be responsible for supporting high-quality, individualised education to students with challenging behaviours. You will work closely with the class teacher, and other staff to create and implement effective teaching strategies and support plans.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist students in accessing the curriculum, providing one-on-one support and helping them engage with their learning activities.

Use a range of teaching methods, including practical, hands-on activities, to engage students with a variety of learning preferences.

Support students with behavioural difficulties by implementing positive behaviour strategies, de-escalation techniques, and appropriate interventions.

Help manage students during challenging situations, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

Monitor and report on student behavior, progress, and wellbeing to the teaching staff and leadership team.

Provide emotional support and encouragement to students, helping them develop coping strategies for managing stress, anxiety, or anger.

Act as a role model and mentor to students, fostering resilience, self-esteem, and confidence.

Requirements:

Experience teaching children or young people, in an educational setting.

A genuine interest in supporting the learning and development of students with SEN.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • SEN school-based experience or transferable experience
  • The last 2 years covered references
  • Valid Photo ID – Driving Licence or passport
  • Full DBS – on the update service (We can provide one for you)
